Marines Evacuate Civilians from South Sudan

Marines airlifted all non-essential US citizens from the embassy in South Sudan, amid a deteriorating political and security situation.

Around 20 personnel were airlifted from the embassy in Juba aboard two KC-130 aircraft to nearby Entebbe, Uganda, where the aircraft and the Marine crisis response unit are based.

In addition to removing non-essential diplomatic personnel, the US has also moved some soldiers assigned to AFRICOM into Juba to protect the US personnel and property still there.
